Patriotic Princess

I've only just learned that it's a myth that Ben Franklin proposed that the turkey be our national symbol, which apparently arose from a letter he sent to his daughter, describing the turkey as "a bird of courage," albeit "a little vain and silly," while noting that the turkey is "a true original native of America." I'm disappointed to find that out. If it weren't for the fact that many people would rather celebrate this courageous creature on the fourth Thursday in November than the Fourth of July, this plucky animal could have been our national symbol. That's politics for you. See how natural Princess looks against the backdrop of the American flag. Turkeys display their patriotism with their colors. You don't see eagles sporting any red, white and blue.

I believe Princess is fond of the Fourth of July, as she tends to visit on the holiday each year, though it could be because there are more kids at the park across the street today chasing her off. She's only been by a few times to visit on her own the past few weeks, so it was nice to see her today, competing with the gluttonous ground squirrels, and having to put up with the little predator kitty chasing after her. It doesn't matter that the eagle got all the glory, turkeys know they are the true national bird.

Princess is boss!
